Stephen S. Silver
A principal and cofounder of the Onix Group, along with Ronald E. Schafer. Mr. Silver has more than 35 years’ experience in the development, financing, operation and expansion of successful business ventures in healthcare, hospitality and real estate development.
Over the past three decades, with Mr. Silver’s direction and leadership, the organization has grown to become the largest provider of skilled nursing and rehabilitation in the state of Delaware and has expanded its operations to include more than 20 operating businesses across its diverse divisions in: Healthcare and Rehabilitation; Addiction Recovery; Institutional Pharmacy; out-patient diagnostic services; Hospitality & Real Estate Development.
Mr. Silver began his career at Manor Care and held various positions in marketing and development during his ten year tenure. As Senior Vice President, Mr. Silver was responsible for Marketing, Development, Sub-Acute Clinical Programs and quality improvement. He was also responsible for the development, acquisition and operation of the company’s three (3) in-patient specialty hospitals for substance abuse (operating in FL, LA and PA).
Mr. Silver holds a Bachelor’s Degree (1975) in Business Administration from Columbia Union College and received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (1980) from the University of Maryland.
Ronald E. Schafer
A principal and cofounder of the Onix Group, along with Stephen S. Silver. Mr. Schafer has more than 30 years’ experience in the development, financing, operation and expansion of successful business ventures in healthcare, hospitality and real estate development.
Mr. Schafer is the driving force in the unique design concepts found in the Onix Group buildings and he oversees the development process. Mr. Schafer is an expert in finance, accounting and reimbursements. As a result of his strong understanding of these disciplines, he has been able to lead the company’s efforts to achieve and sustain operating margins that meet or exceed industry standards in both the healthcare and hospitality divisions. He is a member of the Board of Directors for MidCoast Bank.
Prior to co-founding the Onix Group, Mr. Schafer was the Executive Officer in Finance, Corporate Development and Acquisitions for Manor Care. During his tenure with Manor Care, he analyzed acquisitions and divestitures of the company, including the lodging assets of Choice Hotels, healthcare and senior housing, evaluating new business opportunities and strategies related to the company’s capital structure and assisted with investor and banking relationships.
Mr. Schafer holds a Bachelor’s Degree (1982) in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska and has passed the national examination for Certified Public Accounting.
